Beginning November 1, don’t “delay” if you are planning a visit to a one of Georgia’s five Delayed Harvest trout streams. Trout fishing on these streams provides some exceptional opportunities to land a good one, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

Hunting repeatedly shows itself as a safe sport. With thousands of participating Georgia hunters, statistics show that only a small percentage are ever involved in any type of firearms incident, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD). For example, with well over half a million participating hunters during the last deer season, Georgia reported only 15 firearms hunting incidents.

Many Georgia hunters eagerly await the opening day of firearms deer hunting season each year. Luckily, that wait is almost over as the statewide deer hunting firearms season opens Sat., Oct. 21 and continues through Jan. 14, 2024.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division (CRD) sank a retired tugboat offshore today for use as an artificial reef. The 41-foot tugboat Brenda K. was sunk at Artificial Reef KBY, 8 nautical miles east of Cumberland Island in about 50 feet of water.

Amicalola Falls State Park, a crown jewel for Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites, celebrated the opening of a new visitor center, thanks in part to a grant from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program. State and local leaders, Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials, members of the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund Board of Trustees, and others gathered for the ribbon-cutting at the new Amicalola Falls State Park Visitor Center.

Several Department of Natural Resources employees were honored recently during the annual Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites Managers Conference. An awards ceremony was held October 3 to celebrate those who make more than 60 State Parks and Historic Sites outstanding destinations for Georgia’s citizens and visitors. Hunters in Georgia have the opportunity for an early “shot” at a deer during the upcoming week-long primitive weapons deer hunting season opening Sat., Oct. 14. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has announced the grant applicants who have been selected to move forward in the approval process to receive approximately $9.6 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant program.
