Arrowhead Environmental Education Center

Since 1994 the Arrowhead Environmental Education Center (AEEC) offers programs to allow students of all ages to experience and learn about wildlife and ecology in Georgia. This 337-acre biologically diverse site welcomes field trips from schools (K-college), clubs, scouts, civic groups and others, offering hands-on outdoor and indoor learning experiences.

Also, AEEC offers outreach programs by bringing animals and activities to your school or event.

These experiences teach students about the wildlife and ecology of our state and the stewardship of our important natural resources. Lessons are correlated to the Georgia Standards of Excellence.

AEEC is available for summer programming including scouts and private summer camps. Archery, fishing, and air rifle shooting instructional programs are offered!

History

Arrowhead is located at the Wildlife Resources Division Game Management Section Regional office near Armuchee. The 337-acre Wildlife Management Area was originally a farming community and later developed into a privately-owned fish hatchery. Bought by the state in 1968, the hatchery was operational until 1979. Today, the 14 hatchery ponds are currently used to aid in the management of waterfowl and wildlife. The site also offers a 2.2-mile interpretive nature trail that encompasses both forested and wetland habitats.

The 2.2-mile interpretive trail, as well as the 337-acre WMA are open every day from dawn to dusk. Visitors must possess a hunting or fishing license or a Georgia Lands Pass to be on the property.

All lakes/ponds are also open for fishing year-round. Any adult (18 years of age or older) must be accompanied by a child (17 years of age or younger) in order to fish. Maximum of 2 adults per 1 child.
