Union County Gun Range

The Union County Gun Range is located near Blairsville in Union County. The range opened in June 2024 offering a new public shooting range for citizens in northeast Georgia.

This range, offering covered rifle and pistol shooting pavilions, was developed, and primarily funded, with the assistance of the Georgia DNR's Wildlife Resources Division through the Wildlife Restoration Program, and is managed and operated by Union County (daily and annual rates or memberships available).

Cochrans Creek WMA

The Cochrans Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a 2,507-acre property located near Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawson County, GA. Opportunities for hunting include deer, bear, turkey, and small game.

 From Dawsonville GA: Take Shoal Creek Road, turn left on Highway 136, at the roundabout take the 1st exit to Highway 52 East, travel approximately 3 miles.

Tallulah Gorge WMA

Tallulah Gorge WMA is mostly forested with rolling to steep hills. The Gorge itself and the Tallulah River roughly bisect the property. The eastern and southeastern portion of the WMA is border by Lake Tugaloo and the South Carolina state line. Daily on-site sign-in is required. This is a WMA Lands Pass area, but a Park Pass will suffice for the Lands Pass requirement. All hunters and anglers must be appropriately licensed.

Treat Mountain WMA

Treat Mountain WMA is a 5,087-acre property located between Cedartown and Tallapoosa. Opportunities include hunting for deer, turkey and small game. See regulations for details. No ATVs or camping allowed. Hunters utilizing this area for deer or turkey hunting should be sure to check their game using Georgia Game Check and select Public Land option, Polk County, and then Treat Mountain WMA.

Tallapoosa River WMA

Tallapoosa River WMA is a 3,053-acre property located between Cedartown and Buchanan. Hunting opportunities include deer, turkey (for youth only) and small game. See regulations for details. No ATVs or camping allowed. Hunters utilizing this area for deer or turkey hunting should be sure to check their game using Georgia Game Check and select Public Land option, Polk County, and then Tallapoosa River WMA.

Allatoona Pass Battlefield

Allatoona Pass is a historically significant location due to its role in two major incidents during the American Civil War. In April 1862, James Andrews’ raiders on board the steam locomotive General passed through Allatoona Pass during what has become known as the Great Locomotive Chase. Two and a half years later on October 5, 1864, following the fall of Atlanta, one of the most stubbornly fought battles of the Civil War was waged on the site. Of the over 5,000 men engaged approximately 30 percent became casualties of war during the battle.

Pleasant Valley VPA

The 143-acre Pleasant Valley VPA is a partnership between the local landowner and the Georgia DNR, WRD to provide public hunting access. This annual lease provides adult child deer, migratory bird and rabbit/squirrel hunting opportunities. Hunters utilizing this area for deer or turkey hunting should be sure to check their game using Georgia Game Check and select Public Land option, Bartow County, and then Pleasant Valley VPA.
